Ridesharing is when a person requests a ride through an app and independent drivers fill those requests.
The company takes a commission for setting up the transaction, the driver receives a percentage of the payment for that trip, and maybe some money if the customer gives a tip.

- Be at least 21 years old
- Vehicle registration and insurance
- Use a 4 door vehicle (there are other requirements such as the age of the vehicle)
The vehicle is inspected by an Uber authorized representative before you can start driving.
In addition to the vehicle requirements, you’ll have to pass a background check.
You must have the following to qualify for the background check:

I know people that drive for both Uber and Lyft. Many of the ones I know prefer Lyft because of the friendliness of the company. The process and rules are pretty much the same as Uber. However, the requirements to drive for Lyft is more stringent. You will be automatically disqualified from Lyft if your background check shows the following:
- Drug related offenses
- Violent crimes
- Sexual offenses
- Theft or property damage offenses
Lyft’s criteria on cars are not as stringent as Uber’s, but there are standards’ for your car to qualify, including having five seat belts and four doors.

How much you get paid will depend on when you choose to work. The pay will be good if you are willing to drive on Friday and Saturday nights, or during rush hour. If you choose to drive during rush hour, you’ll make more money because of surge pricing.
The downside to ridesharing – the wear and tear on your car.

UberEats is the most popular food delivery service. The pay is based on the location of the pickup where it is delivered, mileage, surge charge during busy times, and tips. The rules to join UberEats are similar to Uber, except of the age of the car. They accept 1997 and newer vehicles. On the other hand, if your car is older than 1997, depending on the city, you can deliver if you have a bike.
Dashers as they are called, deliver food and other items from area stores. DoorDash pays per delivery, and you get to keep your tips. The website states that average pay is $10 – $25, but that depends on a number of factors. As with Ridesharing, the pay depends on the city, distance, and more. Amazon Flex is a delivery service for Amazon. As more and more people shop online, UPS, Fedex, and the Post Office are unable to keep up with Amazon Prime and the one/two hour delivery. As a result, Amazon has turned to independent contractors to drop off packages at homes and businesses.
